Trying to switch off....

30th June 2012

I've just got back from a holiday in Majorca - it's such a beautiful place. We stayed in a small town called Soller, north of Palma - really peaceful with an amazing beach. I'd love to say that we saw inspiring cultural spectacles but that would be a massive lie. The holiday was mostly about swimming with the kids in the sea, BBQs, G&Ts and lots and lots of sleep. I think my favourite things about that area is their militant belief in siestas. The local shops would close from 12-4pm and there was NO negotiation - a long lunch at home and a sleep was priority. Can you imagine that happening here!?! I'm going to write to Boris to suggest it.

Due to the immense amount of ice cream we ate, I went for a few runs around the local area. Wow. Hard to go back into a sweaty gym after running through orange groves...

It was so lovely to pootle about - I did really try to switch off. I say 'try' because it actually takes some effort for me. Where we were staying had wifi so I couldn't help check my emails and twitter - I am definitely addicted. Someone once told me that the definition of addiction is when the need outweighs the enjoyment. I love twitter so much and I also like to stay on top of work but at the same time, I think I checked them way more than was necessary. I loved the holiday but I now wish I had turned my phone off more. Good lesson.

  • I loved siestas when staying in Goa. It was such a refreshing and energizing 20min for me. Shame we cannot do it back home. Hehe just imagining myself taking a nap in between classes at my preschool. That would be LUSH!! Maybe you should make a use of the holiday experience and make a program about stressed and tired UK nation. We do not get enough of sleep these days. Everyone would do with a short nap, I am sure.
    Love yaa girl!!

  • beautiful photos, nothing better than having time away from the hustle and bustle of it all.

  • Don't suppose you could link the place you stayed in? Looking for somewhere in this area and it sounds perfect. What a lovely holiday! Loving the new shows also - countdown to Wednesday.
